This year has been one of many changes, much sacrifice, and adaptation. Nevertheless it is important to reflect upon the good in the world and how one can contribute to making a change. For the fourth year in a row, the Dancing for a Dream Fundraiser is once again accepting donations. Las Estrellas del Rawad is a group of talented young dancers living in the slums of Cartagena, Colombia. Inirida, their founder and director, started this dance group with the goal of protecting the youth from the violence, drugs, and alcohol that surround them. Through dance, they are able to use their talents and energy, thus removing them from the dangers of the poverty cycle.
This group consists of around 50 children aged 4 to 21 who do not have access to many basic necessities such as food, power, and much less education. Every year the donations are used to purchase school supplies, uniforms, and shoes for the dancers so that they can continue their academic journey despite many roadblocks. In addition, they purchases are presented to them in a small gathering with lunch and music to celebrate their accomplishments.
This fundraiser was started prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and even then they showed immense perseverance when faced with challenges. With the new developments of the world situation, Las Estrellas del Rawad have suffered in getting groceries and sustenance for their families. Thanks to last year's donations we were able to buy groceries for them in a time when access to food was limited. We were also able to support them with school supplies and their yearly lunch celebration. However, conditions in the poor areas of most developing countries are still dire, and they continue to require support in buying food and other supplies.
This year more than ever we need your support in collecting funds as it is important to note that this pandemic is still not over. Many are still suffering from the restrictions imposed by the government in terms of going to work and many cannot afford food or groceries. That is why we turn to you. In this wonderful time of giving, we need your help to raise funds for Las Estrellas del Rawad, so we can continue supporting them with groceries and school supplies. We come to you with our consistent and unfaltering belief that everybody deserves an education, and with your help, we can help this group of 50+ young boys and girls under the age of 22 achieve their dreams.
