Latin America is a group of 18 countries in the Americas. They are territories wherein the Romance languages of Spanish, Portuguese are spoken. Argentina: Home to the world's southernmost city, Ushuaia. Nicknamed the End of the World, Ushuaia is located on the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. Discovered in 1520 by Commodore Lasserre ARA it was declared as a city in 1893. It is also known as the gateway to Antarctica and most tours leave from here. It’s a fabulous city to visit and definitely a wonder!
Bolivia: La Paz, the Bolivian capital is the highest administrative capital in the world. It lies upon the Altiplano plateau of Andes and is located at 3500 meters above sea level. It’s famous for snow-capped mountains and valleys and will take your breath away!
Chile: Home to the Easter Island Popularly known as a Moai island, it is a remote volcanic island situated in Polynesia. It's 900 monumental statues or moai are the main attraction. These statues were created by 13th and 16th-century inhabitants. They are oversized heads situated on massive stone pedestals called ahus. Make sure to visit this wonder!
Colombia: The producer of 90% of the world's emeralds Emeralds are green gemstones with traces of chromium, vanadium, and beryllium. These elements are specially created by the tectonic movements of the Andes mountains and are found in liquid and gaseous states. Colombian emeralds are also referred to as the evening stone and have a Mohs rating of 8. This makes them the most famous beryl-family gemstone and are more valuable than sapphires and rubies.
Costa Rica: Generates 99% of its electricity by renewable energy. Hydropower, wind, geothermal energy, biomass, and solar energy are the main sources of Costa Rican electricity. The country has geothermal energy sources in abundance, thus is able to generate such electricity.
Cuba: Home to the bee hummingbird, the smallest bird in the world Known as the Helena hummingbird or zunzuncito, it’s only 6.1 cm in length. It is native to Cuba yet is extremely threatened!
Ecuador: Many believe that the closest point to space is Mt. Everest, but in reality, it is Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador. The Earth is not a perfect sphere and bulges slightly at the equator. This is due to its rotational movements. Thus the equator is closest to space than the tropics, making Ecuador the closest point to space.
Guatemala: Discovery point of chocolate famous for its Mayan people, Guatemala is the originator of that brown little heaven. The Mayan people were ardent worshippers of the cacao tree!
