Behind the Curtain of Crisis: Venezuela's Hidden Treasures

With political unrest, a humanitarian crisis, and the collapse of the economy, the media leaves no room for Venezuela’s true beauty. The rest of the world is unaware of Venezuela’s hidden treasures, beautiful landscapes, and incredible facts. The truth is, Venezuela is in shambles, and although it is important to shed light on its crisis, it is also important to recognize Venezuela behind the curtain of crisis. These next five National Parks, hidden treasures, and facts open up the curtains and let the light shine through.

1. LOS ROQUES

Few places on earth offer the human eye a breath-taking beauty as that of Los Roques archipelago. Los Roques is a federal dependency that is made up of 350 islands, cays, and islets. Located in the Caribbean Sea, Los Roques attracts tourists with its shallow turquoise water and white sand beaches. Because of the wide variety of seabirds and rich aquatic life, the Venezuelan government declared Los Roques a National Park in 1972.

2. THE WORLD'S HIGHEST WATERFALL

Angel Falls is located in Canaima National Park, home to the world’s highest waterfall. The waterfall cascades beautifully into the park’s diverse wildlife and tropical jungles.

3. MÉDANOS DEL CORO

Venezuela has beaches and waterfalls, but it also has riveting sand dunes. Médanos del Coro is yet another one of Venezuela’s National Parks. The seemingly endless dunes stretch over an area of more than 35 miles. Médanos del Coro is one of Venezuela’s hidden treasures that not many people are aware of.

4. EL ÁVILA

The ever so famous mountain range in Venezuela, El Avila. El Avila has a particular location as it is right in the capital city, Caracas. To say it is beautiful scenery is truly an understatement. The Mountain range separated the buzzing city of Caracas with the crystal clear Caribbean water. Similar to the other National parks in Venezuela, El Ávila is also known for its diversity in animal and plant life.

5. BEAUTY PAGEANTS AND CROWNS

This last point is not a hidden treasure but an interesting fact. Venezuela has served up six Miss World winners, putting it ahead of the UK (5), India (5), the US, Jamaica, and Iceland (all 3). Venezuela clearly loves a beauty pageant, as they’ve also taken the crown for Miss Universe seven times.
